ENERGY STAR® Appliance Rebate Program

Welcome to the Energize Delaware ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebate Program. Replacing old, inefficient appliances is a simple way to make a difference in both your energy bill and the environment. This program is helping Delawareans make an energy efficient choice when purchasing an appliance by offering rebates of up to $200 for the purchase of an ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer, dishwasher, room air conditioner, or gas water heater.

To help the environment even more, make sure to recycle your old appliance.

Governor Markell and Senator McDowell Announce 10,000th Appliance Rebate

Since it was launched in September 2009, Energize Delaware’s Appliance Rebate Program has issued nearly 10,200 rebates to Delawareans who are upgrading to new energy-efficient appliances.

Mary Conrad of Dover took advantage of the rebate opportunity recently, when she purchased a dishwasher as part of a remodeling project in her kitchen. Ms. Conrad’s appliance purchase helped the program pass the 10,000th rebate milestone.

“I have been trying to be more conservative when it comes to energy use and to have less of a footprint on the earth all around,” Ms. Conrad said. The money-back offer was an added incentive she needed to invest in a long-term energy-saving solution.

Ms. Conrad said she will be on the lookout for energy-efficient models that carry the ENERGY STAR label when making future appliance purchases. “If every individual tries to do that, we can reduce our damage to the earth,” she added. “People looking for ways to become more energy efficient should take advantage of these rebates. And if you can save more money in this economy, it’s to your benefit.”

If you don’t think choosing an ENERGY STAR appliance can make a difference, consider these facts:

  • The average household spends about $2,200 each year on their energy bills.

  • By following the practices and using the products suggested by the ENERGY STAR program, you can save up to one-third that cost or approximately $700 each year.

  • Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, prevented 43 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2008 alone––equivalent to the annual emissions from 29 million vehicles––and saved more than $19 billion on their utility bills.

  • In Delaware 27% of households have a second refrigerator in the basement or garage costing almost $15 million each year.
