Helping Delaware Businesses Save Money, Create Jobs and Improve the Environment

As Delaware's one-stop resource for saving money, creating jobs and improving the environment, Energize Delaware offers new ways for commercial, industrial and other non-residential groups including municipalities, universities, schools and hospitals to become full partners in Delaware's sustainable energy future.

The newly launched Standard Lighting Program for Business offers businesses and other non-residential energy consumers useful tools, helpful information and a variety of financial incentives for the installation of efficient lighting technologies in  both new construction projects and the renovation of existing facilities.

Along with the Standard Lighting Program for Business, Energize Delaware will be launching a portfolio of non-residential programs in the upcoming months. These programs will provide businesses the power of energy efficiency while saving money and energy.  Check back for details or sign up for our commercial and industrial mailing list to receive the latest program information and alerts.

Together we have the ability to save millions of dollars a year and reduce green house gases that harm the environment—just by using energy wisely.

Finding Opportunities to Save:  The Delaware Perspective

Delaware has approximately 20,000 commercial businesses operating from nearly 16,000 buildings (excluding schools and government facilities). The total electricity consumed by these commercial buildings across the state reaches more than 3 million MWhs each year1.  Office space has the most square feet of commercial space followed by retail and service building type. More than half the energy used by buildings is for heating and lighting. Fortunately there are a number of cost effective opportunities to reduce energy use in buildings and businesses in Delaware are already taking an active role.

Delaware Businesses:  Leading the Charge

Many business leaders in Delaware have already been active in a number of programs that measure and improve the energy efficiency of their buildings. Through programs like the ENERGY STAR® Leader program, the ENERGY STAR Challenge, and Designed to earn ENERGY STAR, Delaware businesses are demonstrating the importance of reducing energy use and associated green house gases.  Over 40 businesses in Delaware have the national recognition of the ENERGY STAR label. These facilities measurably cost less to operate and improve the quality of our environment. They result from prudent energy management and proven technologies. We congratulate their achievement.
