Gov. Jack Markell Taps SEU to Cut Energy Waste and Create Jobs
Gov. Jack Markell announced on January 6 that a number of older, drafty state buildings will be going on an energy diet as part of an effort to cut energy waste, save tax payer money and create jobs. The State will take advantage of the SEU’s new Energy Performance Contracting Program to identify and finance upgrades that lock in long-term energy and cost savings. Comprehensive overhauls conducted through programs like the SEU’s can cut energy and water bills by 20 to 30 percent. In addition to the Governor’s effort, New Castle County and the Brandywine school district are also considering participation in the program, which is available to government buildings, schools, hospitals, universities and nonprofit organizations.
