Refrigerators and Freezers
Like all ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances, refrigerators and freezers that carry the ENERGY STAR label offer all of the modern features you expect, while still providing energy savings. In fact, new refrigerators that have earned the ENERGY STAR use about half as much energy as models manufactured before 1993. This means that if you have an old refrigerator in your kitchen, garage, or basement, it could cost you hundreds of dollars per year to operate it.
ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator models use high efficiency compressors, improved insulation, and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms to improve energy efficiency. Many ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator models include automatic ice-maker and through-the-door ice dispensers. Qualified models are also available with top, bottom, and side-by-side freezers.
